Today Colin is joined by our regular Wednesday co-host Justin Housman to talk through some recent stories to come out of the outdoor community!
They open the show with the news that the fallout from the Trump layoffs have caused the Fiery Furnace Trail in Arches National Park to close indefinitely. Buckle up because we're probably gonna be getting news like this for a while. (07:57)
Lady Gaga is being sued by surf brand ...Lost. Apparently her new album, Mayhem is also the trademarked nickname of ...Lost's founder/boardmaker. So....what's the connection here? (13:04)
Cybertruck owners can now get a pop up camper because even the lamest vehicle of all time deserves after market accessories....I guess? (17:15)
Q&A Corner: Reddit edition! What if you don't want to do outdoor activities but you still have the urge to go outside? (25:55)
They of course wrap things up with The Parting Shot (38:52). Colin has a stone to throw at footwear maker Lems while Justin would like us to pick a firm date for Easter.

All right, folks, let's talk about a game changer. Literally. If you're a brand or retailer in the outdoor industry, think of Endeavor like the ultimate power up for your sales game.
This platform is designed to level up retail associates, giving them the XP they need to master your gear, sell more, and rack up rewards along the way. It's like a cheat code for better sales, making sure your products don't just sit on the shelves but actually move. Why is this valuable?
Well trained and motivated staff sell way more gear. Brands using endeavor, like K2 Sports and Smith Optics have seen better sell through stronger brand engagement and real data insights on what works.
And here's where Endeavor gets really interesting. It's gamified. That means learning about products and earning incentives feels fun and not like homework.
But there's also a couple of other power ups you'll want to consider. First is their partnership with locally, so online shoppers can instantly find a knowledgeable staffer in a nearby store ready to seal the deal.
Second is an option known as freemium, where you can launch brand assets, push news feed posts, and coordinate rep clinics.
And with Endeavor's pay as you go plans, you can take sales contests, education campaigns, or collect staff insights collection programs all out for a test drive.
The bottom line, if your retail game is feeling like it's stuck in easy mode, Endeavor is the upgrade you need to unlock next level sales, max out your team's knowledge, and beat the boss. When it comes to customer experience. Head to Endeavor. That's end VR IO to learn more today.

Rock Fight. Rock fight. Rock fight. Rock fight. Rock fight. Rock fight.
Colin True
00:01:40.880 - 00:02:03.240
Welcome to the Rock Fight, where we speak our truth, slay sacred cows, and sometimes agree to disagree. This is an outdoor podcast that aims for the head. I'm Colin True, and joining me today, he's here to announce his new favorite baseball team.
It's Justin Elsman. Who is it? It can't be the Dodgers. You gotta talk about the Dodgers. No, you're out on the Dodgers now. You told me that. We talked about it.
Justin Housman
00:02:03.280 - 00:02:10.904
What? You know, Colin, shut the. Shut the podcast down. I. There's certain kinds of humor that doesn't really. That doesn't work for me. And this is.
Colin True
00:02:10.992 - 00:02:13.860
There's two things. Number one, we're recording this on April 1st.
Justin Housman
00:02:14.160 - 00:02:18.540
Oh, God. You know what? I will say I completely forgot.
Colin True
00:02:19.600 - 00:02:25.016
Okay. Yeah, you're out of the loop on the. The discourse of the outdoor industry and all the bad posts that went up were there.
Justin Housman
00:02:25.168 - 00:02:28.100
We're still doing. We're still doing good. We're still doing that.
Colin True
00:02:28.480 - 00:02:31.512
But secondly, like, that. You can't root for the dollar. You got to. You got to just move on.
Justin Housman
00:02:31.536 - 00:02:32.488
Why they've done.
Colin True
00:02:32.624 - 00:02:40.116
Why would you want to root for the doll? Like, they're just like half a billion dol. The freaking. You know, they. You know, showy. The. Like, them get out of here.
Justin Housman
00:02:40.188 - 00:02:52.836
Like, you're. Do you even have it? You don't care about baseball. But if you did. Now none of them can do that. There's no salary cap. They can all do it.
They're all owned by billionaires. They didn't do anything wrong.
Colin True
00:02:52.868 - 00:02:53.700
I know that's true.
Justin Housman
00:02:53.780 - 00:03:06.460
Also, also, also, you. You. You open this can. So what you have to understand is that before their ownership, the group that owns the Dodgers now own them.
We were owned by the most. By the worst owner in baseball, Frank McCourt.
Colin True
00:03:06.540 - 00:03:08.684
Yeah, you do have a few years to OD is still probably.
Justin Housman
00:03:08.732 - 00:03:17.916
And he had, like, absolutely no money. He was bankrupt. The whole reason he bought the team was so he could make money off of parking. Apparently. That's what everybody seems to think.
Colin True
00:03:17.988 - 00:03:18.780
I believe it.
Justin Housman
00:03:18.900 - 00:03:25.100
And. And we couldn't sign anybody. I mean, like, Jeff Kent was our biggest star for a couple years. I mean, it was. It was awful. That's really.
Colin True
00:03:25.140 - 00:03:26.636
Is sad for a team based in Los Angeles.
Justin Housman
00:03:26.668 - 00:03:27.036
Exactly.
Colin True
00:03:27.068 - 00:03:28.364
I mean, it's like, what are you, the Angels?
Justin Housman
00:03:28.412 - 00:03:58.028
Come on. So when you know this. This thing has built up gradually and it's. It's been done the right way, I get. Believe me, I get it.
I know there's none of this is probably making into the show. I get it. I totally get it. If you're a baseball fan, I would hate the Dodgers too. But you. If you are from the inside, you.
You need to realize this has all been done, like, the right way. Like, it's like they haven't been doing anything stupid. They're very thoughtful about it. They don't offer contracts to certain people.
They very rarely had a bad one. Trevor Bauer is like, the only real bad one. They've done it.
Colin True
00:03:58.084 - 00:04:16.412
I want to hear more about the bad owner thing is so real in sports. I'm listening to a podcast right now about how. And it came out in 2019. They're rerunning it about how the Sonics had to leave Seattle.
And you hear the backstory. Number one, like, they sold that thing for like $360 million or something ridiculous. Like, you know, the Celtics just sold for 6 billion. Right.
Justin Housman
00:04:16.596 - 00:04:20.876
You know, that's got to be the best any sports team's ever sold for it is.
Colin True
00:04:20.948 - 00:04:26.360
But it's also like, you know, five years from now, what's like if the Lakers sell what are. That could have been 12 billion, right?
Justin Housman
00:04:28.060 - 00:04:29.524
Probably. I don't even know.
Colin True
00:04:29.612 - 00:04:38.068
Well, no, but I mean those are the two biggest franchise. I mean you could probably sell like the Hornets for a couple billion at this point.
But it's just like the idea that like somebody in Seattle for sale.
Justin Housman
00:04:38.084 - 00:04:42.100
I wonder what they're going to get. I don't know. I haven't heard anything about it. Twins are like openly for sale right now.
Colin True
00:04:42.140 - 00:04:45.364
They really for sale. That'd be kind of a cool franchise zone. We should buy the twins.
Justin Housman
00:04:45.412 - 00:04:47.280
I think it's probably more than $10.
Colin True
00:04:48.140 - 00:04:50.148
I would, I'd wear a twins hat. I like that.
Justin Housman
00:04:50.204 - 00:05:05.500
I was, I played on the Twins when I was in Little League. So they'll always have and Minnesota Twins. Well, yeah, I was, I was a stud. I was so good. I was so good.
Plus in Visal at the time, the Visalia Oaks were a minor league affiliate for the Twins. It's like Kirby. I saw Kirby Pucket play a few times.
Colin True
00:05:06.280 - 00:05:07.072
That's actually pretty cool.
Justin Housman
00:05:07.096 - 00:05:20.860
I saw Kirby Pucket play rehabbing from injury. I saw Mark McGuire when he was on the Modesto A's rehabbing from an injury, I think because he was already kind of a star by then.
But I've, I saw a few like big leaguers come through town.
Colin True
00:05:21.240 - 00:06:08.180
All right, well, Justin will remain a Dodger fan.
And today Justin the Dodger fan and I will be talking about a couple of stories that come out of the outdoor community over the past week or so and also getting into some Q and A stuff.
Before we get to any of that, though, if you missed Monday's episode of the Rock Fight, go back to hear outdoor industry insider Owen Comerford and producer Dave and I talk about the implications of a movement in Europe to buy local and boycott US Outdoor brands. Come back this Friday where I'm a conversation with Wild Rise Cassie Abel. We won't be getting into Cassie's life story or Wild Rye's origin story.
I mean, we might get into some of that, but we're going to be talking about how she thinks we can kick the door in on the outdoor industry's old white guy problem, of which I am absolutely a part of.
But Justin, if anyone listening to this wanted to reach out to us, maybe get little bit more of the from the Rock Fight universe, what would you recommend they do?
Justin Housman
00:06:08.560 - 00:06:23.592
I recommend, I recommend that they write me a check, a personal check, and Send it right to my house and they can have access to whatever they want. I'll give them. I'll give them our text history.
I'll give them screen like I have some screenshots of you doing weird that I'll send them like our two year.
Colin True
00:06:23.616 - 00:06:26.008
Old, our almost three year old text spread you here it is.
Justin Housman
00:06:26.064 - 00:06:30.968
Just upload this whole thing. Change your life. That's one thing.
Colin True
00:06:31.024 - 00:06:33.608
That'd be so sad for them if that would change their life.
Justin Housman
00:06:33.664 - 00:06:36.932
You never know. Colin. We. You get touched people in way in. In.
Colin True
00:06:37.036 - 00:06:37.924
We're influential.
Justin Housman
00:06:37.972 - 00:06:48.852

You also should follow the podcast on Apple or Spotify or Fountain. Is that the other? What's the other one?
Colin True
00:07:39.276 - 00:07:40.116
Fountain's one of them.
Justin Housman
00:07:40.188 - 00:07:46.244

Colin True
00:07:57.070 - 00:08:14.510
All right. Our top story today is presented by your hub for ultralight gear Garage Grown gear. Head to garagegrown gear.com and check them out today.
And first up, per the trek co a popular hike in Arches national park, the Fiery Furnace Trail. By the way, it's Probably a top 10 all time name Fiery Furnace Trail.
Justin Housman
00:08:14.590 - 00:08:17.070
Doesn'T sound particularly enticing, but.
Colin True
00:08:17.190 - 00:08:54.250
No, but it's cool anyway. That trail has been closed indefinitely amid staffing shortages that have come as a result of the Trump administration staffing cuts.
Despite a judge ruling to reinstate many of those cuts, there have been significant delays in getting those things up and running. And Fiery Furnace relies on a permit system for hikers to limit impact to the delicate ecosystem.
So for now, because there's no staff to manage it, the trail remains closed.
You know, I didn't want to sit here and belabor this and have like a 20 minute conversation because we know how messed up the world is, but this is just, I think, universe. We're getting closer into springtime and summer. It's like this, things are going to kind of be fucked up for quite some time to come.
Justin Housman
00:08:54.290 - 00:08:54.990
Probably.
Colin True
00:08:56.770 - 00:08:59.790
Call ahead before you go do anything would be my advice.
Justin Housman
00:09:00.190 - 00:09:12.650
I, I, I guess I feel like if we're gonna talk about this at all, what's the only thing I think that's worth even getting into is like, how do you keep from boiling over into a murderous rage?
Colin True
00:09:12.990 - 00:09:22.806
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't want to. Like just like every time another thing happens we shouldn't be bringing up on the pod.
I think we all kind of are pretty aligned about how we feel about it but, you know, but we helpful.
Justin Housman
00:09:22.838 - 00:09:31.196
For people though, I think.
And I don't have an answer because when you sent me this link yesterday, I boiled over into a murderous rage for a long time and I don't think it went away till I fell asleep.
Colin True
00:09:31.278 - 00:09:34.500
Did you guys see that on the news? San Francisco yesterday? Some dead bodies.
Justin Housman
00:09:34.920 - 00:09:37.824
Yeah, sorry. God, I need to, really need to control myself.
Colin True
00:09:37.952 - 00:09:41.200
But murderous Ray, it's like, Colin, send me a link. What was I supposed to do?
Justin Housman
00:09:41.240 - 00:11:27.792
The problem is like I've, as you know, I think we've, I don't know if we talked about on the show, but I've been kind of in a semi news blackout where I'm like, I have to, you know, it's not going to do me any good. I'll pay attention to what I need to pay attention to as far as what I need to know for my job.
But for the most part I've kind of like cut out social media, you know, except, and like, and my Instagram algorithm is well trained that like it doesn't really feed me political stuff. And so for the most part I'm only hearing about things when people send me links to them because it's going to be on the podcast.
And so I'd been a week or so without me having something to get, like, boilingly mad about, but I saw this, and I got real, real mad. And I wish I had a good, like, gosh, I don't know, recommendation for what to do other than, you know, you can be proactive about this sort of thing.
You know, there's very little we can do about the courts. There's very little we can do about the constitutional crisis that is absolutely happening. But what you can do is you can volunteer.
What you can do is you can be an advocate. What you can do is you can take that, that. That anger and maybe you give to.
To a conservation group like the national park, you know, Friends alliance or Conservation Alliance, I guess that's what it's called. Or if you. If you love Arches, there's probably like a, like 10 or 15 local nonprofits that just. That just help it out. Donate to them.
Like, everybody needs this.
Especially if you're in any way related, you know, tangentially related to the federal funding, you're probably kind of feeling dicey about where your money's coming from. So be proactive. You know, don't get mired in the negative. You can't really fix that.
I guess you could go protest there, but frankly, your time would be better spent, like, volunteering or doing something else. Volunteer to get people elected into office that are going to do the right thing. Write a check to your local nonprofit. Like, there's.
There's things you can do to make you feel better.
Colin True
00:11:27.816 - 00:12:11.586
I promise, it doesn't even need to be that big, too.
I mean, over on the Open Container podcast here on the Rock Fight Podcast network that Doug Schnitzbahn hosts this week, Rochelle Schrute, also a friend of the Rock Fight you. And I've talked to Rochelle. They were talking about conservation on that pod.
And one thing she mentioned, too, is like, look, we just go pick up some trash. Really? You know, like. Like, yeah, like, you know, you think about all the things you're like, oh, who's going to empty the trash cans?
Not that you have to drive to a national park and empty trash cans, but, like, if you're in your local park, if you're on your local trail, like, just bend over, pick up the trash, do little things, like, do the things that help keep you. Keep the places you love, you know, clean and, you know, and. And, I don't know, and usable, you know, just.
It'll make you feel better and you're doing something good. It's just a little thing to your point. Just take the action in that way as a good.
Justin Housman
00:12:11.658 - 00:12:32.360
I think we can kill them with kindness, you know, I think we can. I think we can. You know, first of all, almost nothing feels better than picking up garbage.
Like, if you just see, like a random thing on the street and you're like, this shouldn't be here. Like, we pick it up and you're. It's like you break out of this weird funk or matrix level, like, blinder thing where you're like, I can't.
I just do this. I can't touch garbage. I can't. That's not what I do.
Colin True
00:12:32.400 - 00:12:33.496
Like, I just made something better.
Justin Housman
00:12:33.568 - 00:12:35.112
It's just. Oh, God, it feels good.
Colin True
00:12:35.216 - 00:13:03.802
Well, that was going on. There was also a story in Gear junkie about, you know, the. The campgrounds, especially, like, in the Smokies, which.
I didn't know Smokies was the most visited. I don't know how I didn't know that. Yeah, a lot of people don't actually make sense.
Well, where I get it and there's, well, Tennessee has some incredible, you know, stuff in their mountains. So, like, that makes sense. But it's a. You know, just. These stories are going to continue to come. These things are going to continue to happen.
Call ahead if you have reservations or make sure you're dialed up. Your. Your plans are dialed in before you leave for anywhere.
And yeah, like Justin said, you know, take some action in your community and make you feel better.
Justin Housman
00:13:03.826 - 00:13:04.750
Yeah, I promise.
Colin True
00:13:05.330 - 00:13:15.082
Second story. According to the inertia, there was some brand drama in the surf world.
Last week, a surf brand, Lost, filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga for trademark infringement. Did you see this?
Justin Housman
00:13:15.186 - 00:13:19.226
I did. When you somehow. That somehow. I hadn't seen this until you put it on.
Colin True
00:13:19.298 - 00:13:27.274
Second Murderous rage. Lady Gaga's new album is called Mayhem, which is also the nickname of Lost board maker. Is it Matt? Is it Beal?
Justin Housman
00:13:27.322 - 00:13:27.950
Yes.
Colin True
00:13:28.370 - 00:13:51.078
Oh, I got that right. All right. And they claim they've had trademarks on the Mayhem name dating back to 2015. I brought this up because I want the surfer inside scoop.
I mean, like, this seems pretty stupid if you look at the. Right. I mean, if Lady Gaga was supporting her new album with, like, a line of Mayhem sur sports.
And I'd be like, all right, yeah, come on, you can't do that. It's the title of her album. Like, where is the. The conflict here?
Justin Housman
00:13:51.214 - 00:13:55.450
The other thing that is, like, so Lost. Okay.
Colin True
00:13:55.870 - 00:13:56.694
Ellipsis.
Justin Housman
00:13:56.742 - 00:14:01.302
Lost. Yeah. Which. Off with that. Like, God, I hate that's. So obnoxious.
Colin True
00:14:01.446 - 00:14:03.330
I thought it was a typo when I first.
Justin Housman
00:14:04.030 - 00:14:07.570
Huge. Like, honestly, this. They're probably the number two board maker in the world.
Colin True
00:14:07.870 - 00:14:08.454
Oh, wow.
Justin Housman
00:14:08.502 - 00:14:10.790
They're huge. Or at least most respected, you know.
Colin True
00:14:10.830 - 00:14:12.470
So they want that Gaga money is what they're doing.
Justin Housman
00:14:12.510 - 00:14:25.218
Dude, Matt Bayless is rich as hell. He's cantankerous. Like, he's a. Like, I. He makes real good surfboards, and he's real smart. Cantankerous dude, though. And.
Colin True
00:14:25.354 - 00:14:26.034
Okay.
Justin Housman
00:14:26.162 - 00:14:49.468
And the thing I've also never understood is it's Lost surfboards, but it's also mayhem. And it doesn't. It's never made sense. The design language has never made sense.
Lost has always been, like, written in this kind of weirdly dumb, like, kind of graffiti, cartoony font. And then Mayhem is like that old English kind of, like, dripping kind of thing. And it's. I don't. What. I don't understand what you're doing.
You don't make boards that aren't mayhem. You just. They're all this. They're all mayhem.
Colin True
00:14:49.484 - 00:14:50.044
Yeah. All the boards.
Justin Housman
00:14:50.092 - 00:14:51.468
What are you doing? I don't. I'm.
Colin True
00:14:51.564 - 00:14:53.404
That's his nickname, right? Isn't that the thing?
Justin Housman
00:14:53.492 - 00:14:55.320
Yeah, but then why is it called Lost?
Colin True
00:14:55.940 - 00:14:58.796
But is this. Is this a surf. Does this happen in the surf world?
Justin Housman
00:14:58.948 - 00:15:12.390
I've never heard of something like this happening before. This is wild to me. I mean, how many times. I mean, there must be. There must be things called Lost. Did he sue the show?
He was around before the show was like, was there a cease and desist?
Colin True
00:15:13.770 - 00:15:14.562
You know, we.
Justin Housman
00:15:14.666 - 00:15:15.090
This is.
Colin True
00:15:15.130 - 00:15:16.030
We had lost.
Justin Housman
00:15:16.490 - 00:15:33.554
To me, it's. You know, it's funny that this comes up because just yesterday I saw a. A truck with a tailgate pad on for mountain bikes with the Backcountry logo.
And I was like, backcountry? I kind of forgot all about backcountry. And then I just. Of course, you can't think about backcountry now without thinking about the.
That idiotic lawsuit. And like, to me.
Colin True
00:15:33.722 - 00:15:34.786
Oh, on the.
Justin Housman
00:15:34.858 - 00:15:36.980
Wait, remember when backcountrycountry.com.
Colin True
00:15:37.020 - 00:15:37.668
Yeah.
Justin Housman
00:15:37.844 - 00:15:42.548
Do you know what I'm talking about? When they sued, like, every place. Every place in the.
Colin True
00:15:42.604 - 00:15:44.708
Oh, yeah. They served all the special reason.
Justin Housman
00:15:44.844 - 00:15:46.788
The reason that nobody buys their. Anymore.
Colin True
00:15:46.884 - 00:15:51.440
Remember that? The gigantic. Yes, I know. I know all that. We've talked about that here.
Justin Housman
00:15:51.740 - 00:15:53.140
Misstep. They took like.
Colin True
00:15:53.180 - 00:15:54.084
Yes, yes.
Justin Housman
00:15:54.132 - 00:15:58.932
It's the same thing. It's like. It's not. It's not the same thing because there's not really. If you want a law surfboard, you want a lot surfboard.
Colin True
00:15:58.996 - 00:16:05.076
But if you know, you know and you know about that lawsuit, you see the goat and you think like, oh yeah, you're the guys who tried to over all those independent retailers.
Justin Housman
00:16:05.108 - 00:16:16.606
The only thing I can think of is two things. One just like really aggressive lawyers and he's like, I don't care, whatever. Sure. You know, like signed. They're like, hey, we saw this. Okay, sure.
And just signs it off.
Colin True
00:16:16.678 - 00:16:18.158
They'll probably settle. Just go for it.
Justin Housman
00:16:18.214 - 00:16:35.506
Yeah. Or like I might be talking out of turn. I suspect Bialys is a pretty hardcore Elon Trump dude. I could be way off there, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Like he kind of leans that direction, it seems like. And like Lady Gaga is very much not so maybe just hates Lady Gaga.
Colin True
00:16:35.678 - 00:16:36.346
Yeah, right.
Justin Housman
00:16:36.418 - 00:16:47.578
I don't know. I have no. But he hates her music. I don't know. But he also know that he's the kind of owner who wouldn't like he definitely had that. He's behind that.
It's not like, you know, he's not. He doesn't know that's happening, so.
Colin True
00:16:47.634 - 00:16:55.194
Right. Very protective of his brand. It's just lame. Come on, man. It's Lady Gaga.
Of course now we're probably gonna get sued because we called it lame and he's, he's cantankerous.
Justin Housman
00:16:55.242 - 00:17:02.790
Yeah. Maybe libel. That could be some libel. If you know what never owned a law surfboard. Which is kind of, kind of shocking to me.
Colin True
00:17:03.090 - 00:17:05.786
We'll send to see someone, we'll surf them, we'll review them on the podcast.
Justin Housman
00:17:05.818 - 00:17:13.781
There you go, Matt. I'm sure you know what. Also probably will hear this. I wouldn't be surprised.
He's the kind of guy that I would like he would get back to him and he'd have an opinion about.
Colin True
00:17:13.805 - 00:17:15.701
It or get back to. Somebody will hear it and send it to him.
Justin Housman
00:17:15.725 - 00:17:16.405
Yeah.
Colin True
00:17:16.597 - 00:17:42.210
All right, last thing before we get into something else here. According to gear junkie.com Justin, there's a pop up camper now available for the cyber truck released by Colorado's Phoenix Pop Up Campers.
Another reason we can make fun of Colorado now.
With an MSRP of about $60,000, the new pop up features sleeping for four, a spacious dinette, a 20 pound propane tank, 20 gallons of water storage, and a six gallon water heater.
Justin Housman
00:17:42.290 - 00:17:45.310
You think it's called Phoenix because it's like rising up.
Colin True
00:17:46.410 - 00:17:48.306
Because I mean pop up campers and they're rising.
Justin Housman
00:17:48.338 - 00:17:56.990
Yeah, like, like, like the Pop Up Camper is rising. So it's Phoenix. Like, sure. You're in Colorado if your brand is called Phoenix, something's weird. It's got to be that, right?
Colin True
00:17:57.530 - 00:17:59.250
It can't be related to the city.
Justin Housman
00:17:59.290 - 00:18:00.146
And it makes no sense.
Colin True
00:18:00.178 - 00:18:01.266
Arizona, that'd be bizarre.
Justin Housman
00:18:01.298 - 00:18:05.650
Yeah, it's got to be something to do with because like, isn't that what the Phoenix. It like comes out of the fight, it rises up out of the fire.
Colin True
00:18:05.690 - 00:18:07.406
It. Yeah. Rises from the ashes.
Justin Housman
00:18:07.438 - 00:18:10.558
Maybe you have to light the camper up, pop up on fire before it will move up.
Colin True
00:18:10.694 - 00:18:15.246
But do we have to boycott Phoenix Pop up campers too, for even making a pop up camper?
Justin Housman
00:18:15.358 - 00:18:41.826
That's a really good cybertruck. Here's the thing though.
Are there like, like if you were like, oh well, one, if it, if it's for the cybertruck, you know, the owners aren't going to care about build quality or whether it makes any sense or has or serves any actual purpose. So you got a pretty audience is pretty like much a pushover.
So you could kind of just sell anything you want and they're gonna be like, cool, this works. Are they even gonna go camping? Doubtful. I mean, they're doubtful.
Colin True
00:18:41.938 - 00:18:48.210
Well, that's why I wonder if it was a, if this is a worthy investment on Phoenix's part because like how many people owning a cybertruck are really like, ah, yeah, I need a pop up camp.
Justin Housman
00:18:48.250 - 00:18:58.290
Yeah. But imagine they probably 3D print something for 500 bucks and they charge them 60 grand.
I mean they pull, they pull on you line on this, on this one. I think it's, it's a probably really smart business business call.
Colin True
00:18:58.410 - 00:19:01.452
I just, Here's a question for you. Are you looking at it? Are you looking at the.
Justin Housman
00:19:01.586 - 00:19:03.960
I'm going to now check out. All right, let's open it up.
Colin True
00:19:04.000 - 00:19:08.392
I want to see. Does this actually improve the look of the, of the cybertruck?
Justin Housman
00:19:08.456 - 00:19:15.220
Oh, well, it's a rendering, so it's vaporware until I know for sure it's real. Okay, there's a real one.
Colin True
00:19:16.160 - 00:19:17.768
Yeah, I thought there was a real one in there. Wow.
Justin Housman
00:19:17.784 - 00:19:25.016
That's the, wow. That is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in my entire life. Look at that, folks. Look at this. Google.
Colin True
00:19:25.048 - 00:19:26.104
I'll link it in the show notes.
Justin Housman
00:19:26.152 - 00:19:43.150
Oh my God, dude. I mean, with, with, with the camper part up, I guess it's kind of whatever, but like, can you imagine?
I mean, I, I, if you, I didn't think you could make this thing look worse or Lamer. But they did it. They figured it out. Wow, that's hideous.
Colin True
00:19:44.210 - 00:19:45.898
How do you feel about pop up campers in general?
Justin Housman
00:19:45.954 - 00:19:49.434
I'm so over it. I'm so over it. Like, wouldn't you rather have one of.
Colin True
00:19:49.442 - 00:19:52.026
Those than like a toe? Than tow something though, like a camper?
Justin Housman
00:19:52.058 - 00:19:55.870
No. Yeah, you know, you know what I'd rather do is just use my giant, really nice tent.
Colin True
00:19:58.070 - 00:20:05.166
My wife is, is really wants to get a, a, a toa. Toa. A trailer. And I'm like, no, no, I just want to. I'll go sleep at a tent.
Justin Housman
00:20:05.198 - 00:20:19.742
I mean, I, I don't like have an aversion to them like instinctually or anything like that, but I'm not ready for that sort of thing yet. I don't want to tow something. I don't want to like park it.
I don't want to own something else that cost thousands of dollars that I'm going to use five times a year. Like, no tents are great.
Colin True
00:20:19.766 - 00:20:20.638
If it was just me, my tent.
Justin Housman
00:20:20.654 - 00:20:27.810
Is, My Nemo tent is very nice and very big. And at no point have I been like, I wish this was like more luxurious. I like camping.
Colin True
00:20:28.710 - 00:20:31.770
Yeah, that's true. You're. You really are camping. I do think if it was just.
Justin Housman
00:20:32.550 - 00:20:33.374
You hate camping.
Colin True
00:20:33.422 - 00:20:41.934
I'm not a huge camper, but, but just a pickup truck with like the pop up in the back and it was like just me and like the dog or like me and my wife or whatever like that. I could see you could probably talk me into that.
Justin Housman
00:20:42.102 - 00:21:04.780
There's lots of reasons why they suck. My, A friend of mine right now has one from a very famous, very reputable brand that is like as cool as it gets that he hates it.
He's actually selling his truck entirely to buy a.
He has a Maverick and he's selling it because he's like, I'm just gonna buy a full size truck and put a regular fiberglass shell on it because I can actually sleep in the back of that without worrying about it. And like, I hate this pop camper thing.
Colin True
00:21:04.820 - 00:21:07.900
Well, the Maverick's pretty small. I don't think I'd want to get a pop up his popcorn.
Justin Housman
00:21:07.980 - 00:21:41.724
Super nice. He just is like, it makes no. You know, there's so many things that suck about them. So many things.
Like for example, say you're driving this monstrosity around and you, you put up your, your, you're, you know, this is basically like a metal frame, I guess, foundation for what looks to be like a normal sort of synthetic tent above it. You Know what happens? You park that somewhere and it's dewy. And then you wake up in the morning, you'd like to go somewhere. What are you gonna do?
Yeah, you gotta wait till it dries out or else you collapse the whole thing down. Now it's rotting in its own moisture and like it. It's the worst.
Colin True
00:21:41.772 - 00:21:43.852
That's the thing really. You can't. You can't collapse it when it's wet.
Justin Housman
00:21:43.916 - 00:21:47.122
You can, but it's like putting a wet tent away. It's the worst thing you could possibly do.
Colin True
00:21:47.196 - 00:21:48.070
Well, then you can dry it out.
Justin Housman
00:21:48.110 - 00:21:56.710
Yeah. Then you gotta like go home and like lift your pop up, pop up camper up and just leave it parked in your driveway till it dries. It's insane.
That's why I stopped using rooftop tents.
Colin True
00:21:56.790 - 00:22:01.510
They're horrible. You know, it's pretty good hotels. Hotels are pretty good.
Justin Housman
00:22:01.550 - 00:22:14.410
Just a tent, dude. Get a nice tent or just you have a $150,000 piece of shit truck. Just buy a really nice Hilleberg tent or that Nemo tent that I love.
You know, pay somebody to put it up for you if you're that lazy.
Colin True
00:22:15.140 - 00:22:24.760
Well, if you're listening to this and you have a cyber truck, you're not surprised? Yeah, surprised. But if you are, well, you can get a pop up now. 60K, go camping with your.
Justin Housman
00:22:25.700 - 00:22:28.972
I'm sorry, it's $60,000.
Colin True
00:22:29.116 - 00:22:32.300
Yeah. Then it's a. Then let's say they are 59,000. I didn't look at that.
Justin Housman
00:22:32.420 - 00:22:34.124
This is the.
Colin True
00:22:34.292 - 00:22:35.164
Did you find it?
Justin Housman
00:22:35.252 - 00:22:41.436
What? I'm sorry, why is it sixty thousand dollars? This is like a five thousand dollar pop up camper.
Colin True
00:22:41.468 - 00:22:47.900
Like you could get starting MSRP for the Cyber Phoenix slide in truck camp. $59,900.
Justin Housman
00:22:49.040 - 00:22:53.352
Wow. So you could buy this because they.
Colin True
00:22:53.376 - 00:22:54.760
Know they're only going to sell two of them.
Justin Housman
00:22:54.800 - 00:23:01.496
Or like the most high end Tacoma like in the possible. You can buy this or a land now. Yeah. How would.
Colin True
00:23:01.568 - 00:23:07.480
Yeah, now you're getting into the whole van life thing. When it's like, hey, $400,000 for this built out van. Or you could buy a home somewhere.
Justin Housman
00:23:07.640 - 00:23:18.906
Or, or, or every time you want to go camping or, or the. Or into the, you know, somewhere beautiful. A thousand dollars a night on the nicest hotel within 50 miles. For the rest of your damn life.
Colin True
00:23:19.058 - 00:23:20.426
For the rest of your life.
Justin Housman
00:23:20.498 - 00:23:25.722
This. Yeah, this is. I normally would feel a little bad, but this is. This is that hideously.
Colin True
00:23:25.786 - 00:23:42.216
No, there is nothing to feel bad about when it comes to the cyber truck. No, not at all. It's a. It's a blight on humanity. But so I think if I will.
I do kind of hope if we do see a fair amount of cyber trucks down here, I'm kind of hoping I see one with one of these things on the back of it. I will definitely point and gig.
Justin Housman
00:23:42.248 - 00:23:53.784
There are times where I see one and I'm like. It's just so different that I'm like. I'm a contrarian by nature, so I'm like, kind of attracted to the idea of having something that's so.
Just bizarre. But.
Colin True
00:23:53.872 - 00:23:55.800
But then you really, like, really. Do you feel that way?
Justin Housman
00:23:55.840 - 00:23:56.820
Not. No.
Colin True
00:23:57.360 - 00:23:58.488
Yeah. They're better.
Justin Housman
00:23:58.544 - 00:23:59.180
Yeah.
Colin True
00:23:59.520 - 00:24:00.072
Anyway.
Justin Housman
00:24:00.136 - 00:24:02.540
Wow. $60,000.
Colin True
00:24:03.440 - 00:24:22.810
All right, everyone. Going ultralight with your backpacking setup isn't all about overhauling your big three gear items. Often the joy of reducing your pack weight is in.
It is in the addition, the subtraction or substitution of smaller accessory items. From bottle cap bidets endorsed by Shantae Salibare and ultralight scent pads to toothpaste tabs and Dyneema food bags.
Justin Housman
00:24:22.970 - 00:24:23.770
Ggg.
Colin True
00:24:23.850 - 00:24:26.810
It's garage grown gear. Did I mispronounce something?
Justin Housman
00:24:26.850 - 00:24:28.778
There's Dyneema food bags now there.
Colin True
00:24:28.834 - 00:24:35.210
Dude. I think there's dynamic things for everything. Dyneema makes it. There's. It's out tall out there. Dyneema is the.
Justin Housman
00:24:35.330 - 00:24:41.918
Probably weighs plastic. Plastic Ziploc bag that you can just use more every single time.
Colin True
00:24:42.054 - 00:24:46.862
Even now you're. Now you're stepping on their sales. They want to sell these Dyneema food bags.
Justin Housman
00:24:46.926 - 00:24:49.730
So do they, though. Sorry about that, Lloyd.
Colin True
00:24:50.390 - 00:25:02.206
GGG has hundreds of ultralight accessories to pique your outdoorsy interest. Check out the link in the show notes. Head to garagegrowngear.com and check out all the accessories that they have over there. They got a lot.
It's great.
Justin Housman
00:25:02.358 - 00:25:12.412
I want to. Just want to. I just want to give a little shout out to this new small brand called Parapak Hats.
They reached out to me on LinkedIn a little while back.
Colin True
00:25:12.596 - 00:25:13.836
No free ads. No free.
Justin Housman
00:25:13.908 - 00:25:25.520
Hold on now. They asked if I wanted to check out their stuff. I did. And they make these, like epic little hats that fold up like little fortune cookies.
They get so small and they're super lightweight. And I feel like they do really well at Lloyd's Garage Grown Gear.
Colin True
00:25:26.660 - 00:25:31.946
It's like a, like, almost like a running cap kind of thing. Like, is it a. Yeah, but there's. Is it made out of Dyneema?
Justin Housman
00:25:32.068 - 00:25:33.290
No. No.
Colin True
00:25:34.150 - 00:25:36.370
Well, I don't know if they've ever shared.
Justin Housman
00:25:37.750 - 00:25:41.166
They're just badass little hats. I'm like, I'm just stoked on them. But they're cool.
Colin True
00:25:41.198 - 00:25:41.758
What's it called?
Justin Housman
00:25:41.814 - 00:25:51.566
Para cap or para pack. Para pack. But you can literally fold the hat up and put it in your pocket. It like snaps together. It's, it's neat.
It's really, it's a, it's a really cool little system for these like, ultra lightweight.
Colin True
00:25:51.598 - 00:25:54.094
Innovation. Innovation's back. I love it. That's great.
Justin Housman
00:25:54.182 - 00:25:56.094
Just wanted to mention it. All right.
Colin True
00:25:56.102 - 00:26:31.114
The next part of the podcast is presented by Oboes, who loves hiking and wants us all to talk more about hiking. You know, it's the activity that we all do, but no one talks about going to count the ways. We love hiking in a minute. But, you know, first of all.
So this thing, you know, it's a bit of a cor. It's a kind of a Q and A corner. But we get pretty deep in the outdoor industry and community here in the rock fight.
But there's a recent post that was on Reddit and it gave me pause and made me reflect on a few things. So if you go over on the outdoor subreddit, that's user time2rant.
So time to rant wrote a post titled I want to go outside more, but I don't know what to do there.
Justin Housman
00:26:31.282 - 00:26:32.750
You me both, buddy.
Colin True
00:26:33.250 - 00:28:11.070
Yeah. So I just loved this so much and like, and I'm not making fun of this person at all.
I think this is a, a reminder to those of us who do this stuff all the time. Right. So this person writes on Reddit. I'm not an outdoors person. I don't really want to go on some sort of walk or hike.
But whenever I walk to my car to go run some errands or go to an indoor event, I see how nice it is outside. I wish I had some sort of backyard so I can at least just sit out there.
I live in an apartment and we do have a shared outside space, but it's very small and pretty awkward to just sit there. It's right by everyone's cars, so they'll pull up and I'm just there on a chair. What should I do? I just love the vision.
I've done things like walk to the local coffee shop and ice cream shops, but I don't want to keep buying things just to step outside. I also don't really want to walk around my area too much because I don't want someone to watch me and track down where I live.
I'm considering driving to a park and then walking around or maybe just going to whatever coffee shops I already go to, but sitting outside instead of inside. Any other ideas? And then he added an update. I went to a coffee shop that is modeled after a shed, and I'm sitting outside drinking hot tea.
It's chilly, but feels so good. I'm going to do some reading, journaling, and perhaps bird watching.
So I'm not suggesting that anyone listening to this would be in the same position as the person who wrote this, but I think it's a good reminder for those of us who do go outside that not everyone. Not everyone knows what you know about the outdoors. And this is where we can be.
I don't know, gatekeepy is the right word, but kind of like where we, you know, let's say we can be like, we have like, oh, the hardcore this and we're doing that. And it's just like, hey, there are people who really just can't even connect the dots about how to do even a tenth of the that we do.
So how do we help them out?
Justin Housman
00:28:11.110 - 00:28:28.448
You know, this makes me think of. I'm sure I've talked about on the show before, but my, like, great awakening when I stopped getting annoyed at people with music in the back. Not.
Okay, that's not true. I generally am annoyed, for the most part, with people with music in the backcountry.
It was this particular instance where I was like, oh, I'm not mad at.
Colin True
00:28:28.504 - 00:28:30.144
It was that. It was at a lake or something, wasn't it?
Justin Housman
00:28:30.152 - 00:29:01.922
Yeah. And I'm like, I'm not mad at these people. Like, generally speaking, I don't like the idea, but it was, you know, where some. I don't even.
Granted, for all I know, they went out there every goddamn day. I don't know.
I just decided in my head, because I couldn't see them, they're on the other side of this, like, big, like, rock thing behind me, that they don't really go outside very often. And they. This makes them feel, like, comfortable, right? And like, like, that's the kind of. This, to me, this person is probably right.
Right around that same kind of thing, right? Where it's like, if to get this person to actually go camping, think about all the, like, comforts they'd have to bring with them, you know?
Colin True
00:29:02.026 - 00:29:02.290
Right.
Justin Housman
00:29:02.330 - 00:29:32.958
And, like, it might annoy me and you for whatever reason. You know, we snicker as we, like, pass them in our lightweight gear, whatever.
But, like, in so many ways, people like, like when you think about it this kind of thing, like, takes what, what a God. Like, what an awesome place to be mentally, where you're like, I, I outside. I don't know anything about it.
I'm a little wary about just walking in my neighborhood. Must probably not a great neighborhood. And like, but I have feel this pull to be outside. Like, what a cool. Yeah.
Colin True
00:29:32.974 - 00:29:37.134
And then. And we would say go for a hike. They're like, I don't really probably don't.
Justin Housman
00:29:37.142 - 00:30:00.200
Live anywhere where they could, you know, like, they have no, that's no frame of reference. Like the context makes no sense. Like it's, it's kind of neat. Like in some ways you're like, whoa, you have like a whole world to discover.
Like, you might, you might do. You might go to the, whatever park you have, sit out there long enough to like, work up the courage to like go somewhere else. And you're like, okay.
And eventually you're like leading back country trips. That's how it happens. It's awesome. I love this person so much.
Colin True
00:30:00.740 - 00:30:06.444
Right. And, and they're on the right path by their updates like the reading, journaling and perhaps bird watching little day, by.
Justin Housman
00:30:06.452 - 00:30:11.964
The way, sitting outside like drinking hot tea like at a coffee shop, just being like, it's just chilly, but it.
Colin True
00:30:11.972 - 00:30:14.076
Feels so good like that. I know that feeling.
Justin Housman
00:30:14.188 - 00:30:18.700
Awesome. God, I love. I, I, I adore this person and I wish I could meet them them.
Colin True
00:30:19.080 - 00:31:44.844
I'm glad you brought the, the thing about the speakers because. And I know that's a, a huge bugaboo and there are definitely times when people go by with the speakers where I am annoyed to all hell.
But there are definitely other times when I have passed someone who you can just tell, they don't know that they're doing something wrong. Right. And, and yes, it, yes. It seems so obvious to me that like, why would you do. You're clearly disturbing other people.
But there, those are the same people who have the music player and like, hey, what's up, man? You having a good ride? Like, they're so jovial when you pass them. And I'm like, like, all right. Yeah, man, that's cool. There was another time.
There's a, A. It's a state park kind of east of where I live. There's this really cool exposed rock kind of summit mountain.
And it's got a, it's a really pretty easy climb up.
But we got up to the top for on a sunset hike, my kids and I, and we got at the top and there was a local sort of San Diego hiking Group who were all up there and they're playing music and they're drinking hard kombucha, and they're all like. And as we get to the top, they're, like, cheering for us.
And it's like, there's so many things and under a microscope that I would complain bitterly about what these people are doing. But it was great, and my kids thought it was cool and it made hiking more fun in that moment.
So, yes, as a general rule, like, I am not down with the speakers in the backcountry, but there are moments where you have to kind of, yeah, hey, take it. Put yourself in the shoes of the people you're coming up against, too.
And it could be someone like this who maybe hasn't having that first experience. If they go from the. I don't know what to do outside to now, maybe they're with that group. I saw, like, on top of a mountain.
What a journey that person had gone for sure.
Justin Housman
00:31:44.932 - 00:32:00.200
So I just. I love so much this line here. I'm considering driving to a park. I'm thinking about it. I don't want to commit. I don't want to commit to that.
No, not at all. I'm. I'm like, the.
Colin True
00:32:00.240 - 00:32:00.584
The.
Justin Housman
00:32:00.672 - 00:32:51.330
The, like, earnest earnestness about this is awesome.
I'm considering driving to a park and then walking around or maybe just going to whatever coffee shops I already go to, but sitting outside instead of inside. Like, just. Just that, like, I. They're excited about the idea of maybe sitting outside of a coffee shop. Like, that is so right. Pure and wonderful and.
God, I wish I could get to that point. I guess we all kind. Today at my. At my office, I was like, oh, there's like, a rooftop terrace next door. I'm gonna go check it out.
You know, it's like, that's not that different than what this person was doing. Probably a little more joy to, like, eat my lunch outside rather than, you know, inside, but. God, yeah, I just. I love what I love. It's.
This is also written really well. Like, this person's really, like, clearly a reader is, like, really thoughtful, and it's just like an earnest, pure, like, joy to this that I.
Absolutely. It's just really endearing. This is great.
Colin True
00:32:51.630 - 00:33:11.798
I just feel like there's always that sort of. We're either so hard one way or the other in the outdoor community, where it's like, you could look at this and be like, you know, this. I don't know.
This person doesn't get it. You could look at this and be Like, I don't know. I don't, I just, I don't know.
I, I, I just know that there's going to be, there's, there's certain levels of judgment. So somebody who would write something like this from, from the, from the Al Jazee community.
Justin Housman
00:33:11.854 - 00:33:12.534
Yeah, of course.
Colin True
00:33:12.622 - 00:33:36.030
And it's like, you know, I just think it's a really good reminder that not everyone wants to do what you want to do or if you want to be, you know, or, or even, and a, not even hardcore, like, even if just on level, you know, kind of a more basic level. And so like to kind of see somebody putting themselves out there too and just legitimately asking for advice Now.
I didn't spend that much time going through and reading the response. Yeah, let's do that right now. Actually, hold on. I got, I still have it up here.
Justin Housman
00:33:36.490 - 00:33:43.618
These are, they're all good. None of them are, none, none of them are making, nobody's making fun of this person. I like it. Someone suggests gardening.
Colin True
00:33:43.714 - 00:34:08.558
Yeah, I like, this was a good response. You know, I'll look at Google or Apple maps for things near me that look interesting. Green spaces, river, streams, lakes, parks, hills, etc.
And then I'll either bike or walk to them and explore. Almost always it's a win. Just getting outside is the key. I almost always find something interesting once I leave the house. Yeah. Go for a bike ride.
Yeah. There's so many. Just really, it's all, it's all like 99% encouraging. Make a hobby out of it. Play a game like Pokemon Go.
Justin Housman
00:34:08.614 - 00:34:17.294
Like, what a good answer. Right? You know, that's great. Yeah, I forgot about that. That was, Remember when that was a thing?
You'd be like, well, who are all these random people in this park right.
Colin True
00:34:17.302 - 00:34:25.966
Now just walking around. Or like others, I said pick up birding. Just some ideas. Good luck. Outside is good. And then the original post wrote, thanks. And yeah, I'm excited.
Like, that's just great.
Justin Housman
00:34:26.038 - 00:34:38.250
Total, like, you want to high five this person.
There's just like, I also said this kind of thing takes so much more courage than like someone who's already like, super fit and outdoorsy going, I'm going to climb Mount Rainier. You know, it's like, well, of course you are.
Colin True
00:34:38.370 - 00:34:59.958
Well, and the brands too. Like, you know, and I understand, you know, you have to tell a broader message to a lot of people.
But it's like, don't forget that there are people like this out here. And I've always thought that that's a missed opportunity for someone to be like, hey, this is who you want to attract.
Not everyone's born like, you know, most people don't come out being like fully formed and how they go outside. Yep, this is, this is a good one.
Justin Housman
00:35:00.014 - 00:35:00.502
That's really good.
Colin True
00:35:00.526 - 00:35:05.238
But we gotta, we gotta get more, I think Reddit questions here on the show.
Justin Housman
00:35:05.294 - 00:35:11.690
Totally agree. I never even, I never think to look at the Reddit outdoors subreddit. The Reddit outdoor subreddit. Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
Colin True
00:35:12.190 - 00:35:24.832
Yeah. Well, this episode of the Rock Fight is presented by Oboz, who is helping us ask the question, how do I love hiking? Let me count the ways.
And actually maybe someday this person will like the pair of oboes. At some point they should check them out.
Justin Housman
00:35:24.856 - 00:35:29.632
I went for a run. I went for a run right before this podcast in my Obo's Cat about catabatics.
Colin True
00:35:29.696 - 00:35:30.768
By the way, how'd that go?
Justin Housman
00:35:30.824 - 00:35:32.340
They're really good running shoes.
Colin True
00:35:33.000 - 00:35:33.456
Really?
Justin Housman
00:35:33.528 - 00:35:34.096
I was surprised.
Colin True
00:35:34.128 - 00:35:34.784
I still haven't running.
Justin Housman
00:35:34.832 - 00:35:37.820
I was like, you know what, I'll give them a go. And they were actually. They were great.
Colin True
00:35:38.360 - 00:35:47.824
So they're on today's list of how do we like to go hiking? Number one, the eternal mystery of trail markers. Did I miss the turn? Am I still in the right path? Is this a bear den? You don't always know.
Justin Housman
00:35:47.912 - 00:35:50.764
You know other markers that say bear dentistry in that would be.
Colin True
00:35:50.852 - 00:35:52.892
Here it is. Arrow the bear.
Justin Housman
00:35:52.956 - 00:35:56.160
Would you look in there? Would you be more inclined to look in there or less inclined?
Colin True
00:35:56.980 - 00:36:07.640
I'd be really tempted if I. If it was, you know, if it like, if you could kind of see a little light in there and it wasn't like pitch black and you kind of like know.
If I could like just, just poke my head in and kind of see, would you look? Would you go looking?
Justin Housman
00:36:08.580 - 00:36:19.820
No, I would. No. Would I? Gosh, I'd like to so much cuz I feel like a bear.
A bear like den is like probably one of the like the most snuggly, coziest things you could ever see.
Colin True
00:36:20.280 - 00:36:21.648
And while it's gutting you.
Justin Housman
00:36:21.704 - 00:36:23.340
Yeah, it wasn't worth it.
Colin True
00:36:24.200 - 00:36:34.544
I got to see the bear dead. Number two. New definitions of close. Oh, the campsite's only three more miles.
Justin Housman
00:36:34.592 - 00:36:40.860
Isn't it weird? Isn't it weird how two miles is both nothing and the furthest that anything could ever be?
Colin True
00:36:41.240 - 00:36:41.648
Right?
Justin Housman
00:36:41.704 - 00:36:49.512
There's sometimes you're like two miles, dude, we're there. And then it's like, oh, it may as well be it like on Saturn, it.
Colin True
00:36:49.616 - 00:36:55.240
Especially when you're going back to your car when it's just like and you're just done and all you want on the trail anymore.
Justin Housman
00:36:55.320 - 00:37:05.768
I feel, oh, that's actually interesting. I don't, I think it might be, I have to think about it. I think it might be worse if it's to your first campsite for the night.
Like you're on a multi day backpack, you know, but like at least in your car.
Colin True
00:37:05.824 - 00:37:09.992
Started at home, you drove, you did all that stuff. And I was like this day will never end.
Justin Housman
00:37:10.016 - 00:37:16.350
It's a bad idea. At least your car, you know, you can like, you know, cruise in and like listen to the Rock Fight podcast on your radio and you're all good to go.
Colin True
00:37:16.390 - 00:37:24.590
So that's good advice right there. And number three, the smell of pine after the rain. It's nature's version of an expensive but it's free and free.
Justin Housman
00:37:24.630 - 00:37:25.694
Yeah, it's a good smell.
Colin True
00:37:25.822 - 00:37:36.062
Smells Lovely. Number four, hiking means Justin Alman knows this.
The OBO's Catabatic Collection which has added the all new Catabatic LT which takes the whole collection to a new level.
Justin Housman
00:37:36.246 - 00:37:38.248
That's weird that he has his own object elbows.
Colin True
00:37:38.344 - 00:37:40.696
I'm so glad you said Lawrence Taylor not Ladanian Thomas.
Justin Housman
00:37:40.728 - 00:37:41.224
He alive.
Colin True
00:37:41.272 - 00:37:47.752
Thank you. He should have been. Yeah, I think so. Why didn't, why didn't Ladanian Thompson go by ldt your Ladanian table?
Justin Housman
00:37:47.816 - 00:37:48.424
He did go by.
Colin True
00:37:48.512 - 00:37:50.184
There was already an lt probably, probably.
Justin Housman
00:37:50.232 - 00:37:54.568
Because of that he wanted to supersede these Lawrence Taylor.
Colin True
00:37:54.664 - 00:37:55.656
You can't also be lt.
Justin Housman
00:37:55.688 - 00:38:00.460
I would want to. I mean there's a few people in the world I'd want to like anger less than Lawrence Taylor.
Colin True
00:38:01.040 - 00:38:03.032
Sonny Garcia and Lawrence Taylor. Are those the two?
Justin Housman
00:38:03.056 - 00:38:04.530
Three terrifying birds Rose.
Colin True
00:38:04.690 - 00:38:52.950
That's a. Yeah. So the, the Catabatic lt it takes the whole collection to a new level.

Chris DeMakes
00:38:53.930 - 00:38:56.470
It's time for our party shot.
Colin True
00:38:57.790 - 00:40:12.030
All right, for my parting shot today, we got an email from an alert listener in Missoula. And, Justin, our beloved Bedrock sandals are under threat.
Apparently, footwear brand Lem's has launched a Bedrock ripoff called the Switchback Sandal that looks uncannily like our favorite shoe. There's a link there if you want to check it out. I know I knew of Lems. I knew of them, but I don't know much about them.
So I replied to this listener and said. Asked what he thought of Lems, and he responded, lems is like that lame cousin we all have, doesn't do, and always shows up at family gatherings.
So not a huge endorsement of Lems from. From this individual. Now, this listener is based in Montana, in Missoula, and they might be a little biased, but so am I.
So I want to speak directly right now to the folks at Lem. So if anyone out there is at Lem's or you're, you know, someone at Lem's, Pat, feel free to share this. Guys, I.
Listen, I understand Lem's being original is hard. It's hard to come up with new ideas. But look, I need you to move on from the sandal gambit right now, okay? Bedrocks are sacred ground around here.
So you listen to me, Lems. You listen to me. You take your lame copycat sandal and get the fuck out of here. Get going. We don't want you. We don't want what you're pedaling.
Bedrocks forever. That's my parting shot.
Justin Housman
00:40:14.850 - 00:40:16.440
Have you ever had lemon?
Colin True
00:40:17.490 - 00:40:21.098
No, I didn't really. I mean, I think I knew of them. Have you had limbs?
Justin Housman
00:40:21.194 - 00:40:22.810
Yeah, when they first came out. I kind of.
Colin True
00:40:22.850 - 00:40:24.330
Are you a fan? Am I insulting?
Justin Housman
00:40:24.410 - 00:40:38.186
No, no, no, no. I. I was a fan of the shoes. They're pretty comfortable. They're cool. You could, like, roll. They were, like, booty, sort of high top line. All right.
Yeah, I don't. I. I'm not gonna look at the links. I don't want to get too mad. Bedrock so much. I don't want.
Colin True
00:40:38.258 - 00:40:39.290
They look like Bedrock.
Justin Housman
00:40:39.370 - 00:40:41.190
I can't have infringement on my watch.
Colin True
00:40:41.570 - 00:40:44.218
That's what I'm saying. Like, you cross the line. Lem's. I'm out.
Justin Housman
00:40:44.274 - 00:40:49.090
Colin, you said something interesting to me a minute ago, which was Easter. How'd you know that?
Colin True
00:40:49.790 - 00:40:52.790
Because we were talking about it earlier today, what day Easter was. Okay, that's like my.
Justin Housman
00:40:52.830 - 00:40:55.190
Because you probably were confused, right, about why?
Colin True
00:40:55.230 - 00:40:56.214
It's not the same day.
Justin Housman
00:40:56.302 - 00:41:06.838
That's my parting shot. I get that. You know, that's a religious thing and it depends on like a whole bunch of different things. But you know what? Nobody there's.
It's made up anyway. It's made up anyway.
Colin True
00:41:07.014 - 00:41:27.860
Do you want to know? It's so funny you bring this up. Not to step on your part. We did a little research today. It's based off of like the.
The referno equinox and when it occurs and which month. And so it's based off of when that. And that changes every year. So it's based off of probably the pagans who are worshiping, you know, like earth.
Earth dirt worshipers or whatever.
Justin Housman
00:41:28.020 - 00:41:29.092
And worshipers.
Colin True
00:41:29.156 - 00:41:33.120
It's like, if you're making this thing about the death of Jesus Christ, well, didn't he die on a day?
Justin Housman
00:41:33.420 - 00:41:54.076
That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. Like, it's, it's fine. Like, it's like if you're gonna be like ultra religious about stuff, great. Yeah, that's fine.
But when it's this thing that we've like, separated from all of that and it's. It's just like, I gotta think about what my kids are doing and when they're doing it. And like, it might have some.
It used to have some relation to when spring break was, but I don't think it really does anymore.
Colin True
00:41:54.188 - 00:41:56.172
Like, I think it was like in March last year.
Justin Housman
00:41:56.276 - 00:42:27.378
I'm really confused. I know at some point this month my girls are off for a week. I don't think it has anything to do with Easter, but it used to be.
Because when I was a kid it was called Easter vacation, not spring break. I don't know what Easter is. My daughter just came into my. My office going, I want to hide these Easter eggs in here. I'm like, did it happen yet?
Is it tomorrow? I have no idea. And again, it's fine if that's. You want to celebrate your religion on your. Whatever day you want to celebrate it. I don't care. Care.
But it's superseded that. It's about selling chocolates to my kids now, and I need to know when to buy it. So, so stop it.
Colin True
00:42:27.434 - 00:42:27.714
It's.
Justin Housman
00:42:27.762 - 00:42:30.190
You know what it is? It's April 1st every year. That's it.
Colin True
00:42:30.730 - 00:42:32.978
There you go. Take over April Fool's Day.
Justin Housman
00:42:33.034 - 00:42:38.946
Nobody, everyone, anybody. If they don't hate that, they should. Let's just do Easter on April 1st. All. All.
Colin True
00:42:39.018 - 00:42:40.018
I'm with you on this.
Justin Housman
00:42:40.074 - 00:42:43.202
I. I Anyone? Agreement. Say aye. Harper, say hi.
Colin True
00:42:43.266 - 00:42:44.434
Hi. Hi.
Justin Housman
00:42:44.562 - 00:42:47.170
Harper loves it. So if we're doing an April 1st now.
Colin True
00:42:47.630 - 00:42:51.574
Yeah, I'm, I, I co signed that. I just, it's like I'm with you. Don't make it more confusing.
Justin Housman
00:42:51.622 - 00:42:52.690
Nobody wants it.
Colin True
00:42:53.070 - 00:43:00.290
No, it's like I know when Halloween is. I know when Christmas is. Or you could do it. You could do it Thanksgiving style, like 4:30.
Justin Housman
00:43:01.470 - 00:43:04.902
I don't love that. I don't love it as much because even that a little bit, I'm.
Colin True
00:43:04.966 - 00:43:06.486
But at least it's consistent then.
Justin Housman
00:43:06.638 - 00:43:12.772
But I, I get a little bummed too with that one because it's like, I don't. Is it the 21st? Is the 28th? It could be, I don't know, know.
Colin True
00:43:12.876 - 00:43:16.820
Oh, and then it can really screw with your holiday season too. It's like, oh good, I have a whole extra week.
Justin Housman
00:43:16.860 - 00:43:28.484
Yeah, sometimes, Sometimes Christmas music. Yeah. No, same day all the time. Thanksgiving is always on November 27th. From now on I would be down for that too. Right.
Colin True
00:43:28.572 - 00:43:29.764
Can we get rid of daylight savings?
Justin Housman
00:43:29.812 - 00:43:30.068
No.
Colin True
00:43:30.124 - 00:43:31.076
Do we want daylight savings?
Justin Housman
00:43:31.108 - 00:43:36.932
We love daylight savings because it's light until nine pretty soon and I can like do stuff after work. Why would you not want to establish it full time?
Colin True
00:43:36.956 - 00:43:38.532
We want to establish it. I want to talk time.
Justin Housman
00:43:38.636 - 00:43:51.920
You know, they tried that in China once.
Didn't really work out where they were just like, they like, did they like stop taking into account like time zones and like where the sun rises and sets at different points in the country. But like, God, it needs to be light until 9:00 every day. I don't know. Just figure it out, world. Figure it out.
Colin True
00:43:52.380 - 00:43:57.412
I don't know if they can do that. I mean the, the, the, the, the Earth, Earth does turn and you know.
Justin Housman
00:43:57.436 - 00:44:02.680
It'S not, it's not. That's all fake. It's not turning. You can't turn a flat surface.
Colin True
00:44:03.660 - 00:44:27.552
It's true. A disc. All right, that's the show. Justin has to go hang with his kids. So we're gonna get out your email, send them to myrockfight gmail dot com.
